What is DNA testing, and how does it work?

DNA testing is a scientific method used to analyze an individual's DNA, the genetic material that carries unique information about their ancestry, traits, and health. Our laboratory uses advanced techniques to extract, amplify, and analyze DNA, providing valuable insights into various aspects of an individual's genetic makeup.

How is the DNA sample collected?

DNA samples are typically collected through a simple and painless process, such as a cheek swab or saliva sample. Detailed instructions will be provided with the DNA testing kit, and our customer support team is available to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have about the collection process.

How long will it take to receive my results?

It will take 10 Business days or less from the day that we receive samples at our laboratory. You will be notified via email that we have received your samples and will begin to process them. Once the report is ready you will be able to view your results directly in your account. You can export your report into PDF format for your convenience.

Is my genetic information kept confidential?

Yes, we take the privacy and confidentiality of your genetic information seriously. Our laboratory adheres to strict privacy protocols, and your genetic data is securely stored and handled in accordance with legal and ethical standards. We do not share your information without your explicit consent.

Do You Sell My DNA to other companies?

No! We are proud to be a privately owned laboratory that does not sell your genetic information to third party companies for research or for other companies to see. All your DNA data is confidential, and is only used for the sole purpose of the testing in which that is purchased. Once your biological sample is used for analysis and the report is complete, the sample is appropriately discarded.

Why should I consider DNA testing?

DNA testing can offer valuable information about your ancestry, family relationships, and potential health risks. It can also be helpful in confirming biological relationships, such as paternity or maternity testing. Understanding your genetic profile can empower you to make informed decisions about your health and well-being.

What is Epigenetics?

Epigenetics is the study of how your enviroment and lifestyle behaviour can influence the way your genes work. Epigenetic factors do not alter your underlying DNA sequence, rather they can affect the way your body reads a DNA sequence, which could potentially turn on and off genes. For example, the exposure to pollutants, chemicals, stress, diet, and exercise can all influence positive or negative epigenetic modifications that will have lasting effects over your own develepment and health.

How is this test different from other DNA tests?

At DNA Allure, we provide you with a personalized report that includes detailed information about your DNA and how it relates to your overall health and well being.  We also guide you on how to address those needs by providing you with a list of ingredients, treatments or lifestyle changes that can improve your overall health. Our report will include your own personal genetic map - the SNPs used for the test and the genotype that you carry within your DNA.

How can my results be useful?

Depending on whether you take the DNA Allure skin test or nutrition test, you will be able to know your specific needs based on your own personal genetics. We test for single nucleotide polymorphisms or SNPs, which vary across individuals and determine how your body reacts to different compounds in your environment, diet and skincare. By providung you with a detailed report of your SNPs and how your DNA relates to your health, you will be able to learn a better personal approach to your skincare or nutritional goals.

How do genes influence my skin?

Single nucleotide polymorphisms or SNP are single points in the genome that vary across individuals. The SNPs that we test for in the DNA Allure Skin Test determine your skincare needs by revealing which areas of your skin need more attention based on your own genetic map. We then use this information to analyze what issues your skin may have and suggest treatment and management to improve your overall health.

Do I need to take this test again?

No, your DNA test results do not change. However with the information your results have provided you can manage and combat any unfavourable outcomes you have received. Thankfully with epigenetic’s - the science of lifestyle and environment and its relationship to our genes. We can focus on adjusting our lifestyle and manage our day to day activities to enhance and take care of our natural beauty. Lifestyle changes can influence the outcome of our overall health and wellbeing.
